- Cheaper and more efficient technology. Thanks to the IoT you can regulate, for example, the temperature or lighting of buildings intelligently, making them, on the one hand, more sustainable, and on the other, less expensive.
- Increased safety for employees. Among other things, its use can, for example, identify areas of the building that are deteriorating and may pose a safety hazard to employees.
- New business models. Every emerging technology goes hand in hand with business opportunities, and IoT is no exception. The existence of this type of communications generates, on the part of companies, the need to make the most of Big Data. In other words, an insurance company could, for example, adapt its customers’ rates to their accident history, or monitor the status of each policy live.
These are just examples. But as you can see, the possibilities offered by this technology for its users are enormous, and its scope will only depend on the limits you want to place on it. From smart homes with refrigerators that tell you when to do your shopping and which products are about to expire, to smart cities that monitor the state of pollution at all times in order to regulate it and offer intelligent solutions.
The IoT is a technology that promises to become an integral part of your daily lives over the next few years. But like everything else, it also has its downside. Being permanently connected to the Internet also leads to increased exposure to hackers — companies are aware of this. Therefore, when it comes to implementing it, they multiply their efforts to protect their critical infrastructures and the private information of their users.
This is why many experts consider the progressive implementation of protocols for the IoT sector to be a necessity, but also in terms of cybersecurity. The deployment of this technology will require a great deal of effort to protect it, and its permanence will depend to a large extent on the ability to create an infrastructure that protects it from future attacks.
