Content is king. But what is the point of exciting, entertaining or relevant content if no one can find it? You probably have many content pieces just waiting to be read, seen or heard. In order for your content to be discovered by your target group, the interaction of SEO and content marketing is essential.

With SEO (search engine optimization) your content can be designed to be displayed as high up as possible in the search results. If users find your online presence on the first page of search results, it can be successful. So content marketing and SEO go hand in hand — the creation of high-quality content meets the optimization of it.

What are the benefits of content marketing?

With efficient website hosting, your own website is up and running quickly — all you need is the right content. Good content entertains, informs and broadens the intellectual horizon. Therefore it always has a direct benefit for the readership. Furthermore, good content marketing has a significant impact on brand positioning, customer loyalty and website traffic. If done well, it could translate into increased sales and brand awareness.

The following tips will show you how to design your content in a search engine optimized way — this is the only way to make it visible for your selected target group in the long run!

1. Make sure to include the right keywords

The texts on your website are only search engine optimized if they contain relevant search terms — so-called keywords. Therefore, before each SEO text, there is a detailed keyword research with certain tools. The better you integrate the keywords in the individual headlines and in the continuous text, the higher the chance of a better ranking position in the search results.

You should not place keywords arbitrarily in the text. Google and Co. will only give your contribution importance if keywords are specifically positioned. Keywords should appear in the H1 and H2 headings as well as in the vicinity of images and videos.

2. Create meaningful URLs that speak for themselves

Cryptic URLs consisting of numbers and letters leave a bad impression. Users do not know what to expect on the respective website. Therefore create a URL for your site that speaks for itself. You should avoid unnecessary filler words — they only complicate the URL. Include relevant keywords — this makes your website even more likely to be displayed by search engines and thus found by your selected target group. Furthermore, reader friendliness is a must — your URL should explain what the readership will expect when they visit the site.

3. Exploit meta-description to attract more interest

The meta-description is a short description that summarizes the content of the HTML document. With this text you can motivate users to click on your page. For an ideal meta-description you have to pay attention to the character length and the content — should not exceed 150 characters.

To be appealing, the content must be designed to attract attention and interest. Finally, the description should motivate people to click on it and — depending on the content of your website — trigger a buying impulse. For this purpose, a CTA (Call-to-Action) is recommended — a clear call to the user to buy a product or use a service.

4. Plan a simple website structure

Internet users like it simple — the less they have to think, the better. That’s why you should structure your website simply for the selected target group. Website visitors should be able to easily understand the structure of your site and not have to search for desired content for a long time. With a sensible navigation and a footer many problems can already be prevented.

5. Set up links — it’s worthwhile!

As soon as users land on your website, the first hurdle is taken! But of course you also want them to stay on your site as long as possible, that’s why internal links are worthwhile. In addition, external links are important to achieve important backlinks sooner or later.

Internal and external links are one of the most important ranking factors and therefore give you a better position in the search engine results, and at the same time create added value for your readers.

6. Don’t forget to update your content!

Content makes little sense if it is completely outdated. Therefore, it is important that you update your content at regular intervals. This way your content will be automatically classified as relevant by search engines and ranked higher in the search results.
